Horizontal Variations of Nocturnal Temperature and Turbulence Over Microtopography

چکیده
Abstract Nocturnal spatial variation of temperature, wind, and turbulence over microtopography is generally poorly understood. Low amplitude covers much the Earth’s surface and, with very stable conditions, can produce significant variations temperature turbulence. We examine such gentle terrain that include two shallow gullies feed into a small valley. The are covered by sub-network seven flux stations embedded within larger network measurements indicate only 2–5-m depth 100-m width often lead to several kelvin or more. Almost horizontal turbulence
In this note an attempt is made to create the necessary prerequisites for the development of a theory of ‘almost horizontal turbulence’. A system of simplified equations of ‘almost horizontal motions’ is proposed. These equations are affinely invariant, namely, one can independently modify the vertical and horizontal scales. It is shown that the simplification used does not prevent us from obta...
متن کاملObservations of Flow and Turbulence in the Nocturnal Boundary Layer over a Slope
Measurements were conducted on an eastern slope of the Salt Lake Basin (SLB) as a part of the Vertical Transport and Mixing Experiment (VTMX) conducted in October 2000. Of interest was the nocturnal boundary layer on a slope (in particular, katabatic flows) in the absence of significant synoptic influence. Extensive measurements of mean flow, turbulence, temperature, and solar radiation were ma...
متن کاملStudy of Clear Air Turbulence over Iranian Plato
This study was carried out using two sets of numerical weather forecast data and flight reports for Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) over Iranian Plato to find atmospheric flow patterns favorable to the formation of CAT. The numerical data include five months of AVN analysis with horizontal resolution of 1 degree(about 100 km) and four months forecast data of MM5 model with resolution of 50 km. Impor...
متن کاملpatterns and variations in native and non-native interlanguage pragmatic rating: effects of rater training, intercultural proficiency, and self-assessment
although there are studies on pragmatic assessment, to date, literature has been almost silent about native and non-native english raters’ criteria for the assessment of efl learners’ pragmatic performance. focusing on this topic, this study pursued four purposes. the first one was to find criteria for rating the speech acts of apology and refusal in l2 by native and non-native english teachers...
15 صفحه اولElectron temperature gradient turbulence.
The first toroidal, gyrokinetic, electromagnetic simulations of small scale plasma turbulence are presented. The turbulence considered is driven by gradients in the electron temperature. It is found that electron temperature gradient (ETG) turbulence can induce experimentally relevant thermal losses in magnetic confinement fusion devices. For typical tokamak parameters, the transport is essenti...
